Wine Journeys: The Wines Of The Mediterranean
Thursday, April 11, 6:00 - 9:00 pm
Ah, the Mediterranean. Magical waters and ancient cities steeped in history, tradition, and wine. The names float by like travel posters, Valencia, Marseille, Naples, Palermo, Dubrovnik, Port Carras, or Santorini. More than a beverage, here wine is food, deeply rooted in culture.
Can’t make it to the Mediterranean this spring?
Take this class for a virtual tour of the Med stopping at different ports of call to discover some well known, but more often, much less well-known wines from the surrounding regions.
Imagine yourself stopping at a port-side café, and ordering a glass of the local wine. What would it be? What would you be drinking? Certainly not Cabernet and definitely not Chardonnay, and quite likely something you may never, ever, have even heard of.
Take this virtual journey and discover the Mediterranean through the lens of a wine glass.
Classes fill at 20. In a full class expect to visit 14 countries and taste 20 to 25 wines. Must be 21 to attend.
$39 Sierra College class fee plus a $30 material fee due at class.
Wine Journeys: The Wines Of The Northern Sierra Foothills
Thursday, April 25, 6:00 - 9:00 pm
The northern Sierra Foothills is one of California’s least discovered wine gems. Dating back to pre-Gold Rush days, it’s one of California’s oldest wine regions. Robust in the latter half of the 19th century, the region had been lost in time for almost 100 years. Now the area is making a startling comeback. Learn it’s history, why it flourished, and why, surprisingly, it wasn’t prohibition, but something else that killed it. Then learn the history of it’s modern re-birth.
Now over 50 wineries grow an incredible spectrum of varieties in a range of flavor profiles. Discover the wines and wineries that make the northern foothills one of California’s most intriguing wine regions.
This classes focuses on the wines of Nevada, Placer, Yuba and Butte counties.
Classes fill at 20. In a full class expect to taste 20 to 25 wines.
Must be 21 to attend.
$39 Sierra College class fee plus a $30 material fee due at class.
Done - - - Taste Red Wine Like An Expert
Thursday, February 21, 6:00 - 9:00 pm
If you are like many wine drinkers, you have no trouble telling whether you like the wine or not. More typically the problem is difficulty explaining exactly what it is you do or don’t like about the wine you’re tasting.
Think of this class as a wine workshop, a nuts and bolts primer on how to become a better wine taster, with a better vocabulary.
This class will give you a clear sense of the primary components of red wine, including acidity, bitterness, oak, and tannin, and most importantly, and most importantly, how to recognize the differences between them.
It’s remarkable how many red wine drinkers don’t know, and can’t tell the difference between acidity and tannin.
In this class, learn and understand the differences, how to describe the various component pieces of a wine, and ultimately, how to describe the kinds of red wines you like best.
Classes fill at 20. In a full class expect to taste 20 to 25 wines.
Must be 21 to attend.
$39 Sierra College class fee plus a $30 material fee due at class.
Done - - - Wine Journeys: The Country Wines Of France
Thursday, March 14, 6:00 - 9:00 pm
Whether you love French wine, don’t understand it, or simply don’t know much about it, you can’t ignore it. Whether it is French wine law, French varietals, or production techniques, France is the foundation for wines around the world.
For well over a 1000 years France has ruled the wine world, producing one fifth of the world’s total production. Remarkably, less than 15% is exported.
As the marquee regions of Bordeaux, Burgundy and Champagne become ever more sought after, they become ever more expensive. In this class take a trip down France’s back roads and country lanes to discover lesser known regions and varietals. From the Alps to the Pyrenees, from the Rhone to the Loire, discover a world that is both ancient and surprisingly modern.
Classes fill at 20. In a full class expect to taste 20 to 25 wines.
Must be 21 to attend.
$39 Sierra College class fee plus a $30 material fee due at class.
